Jackie L. DeFord
	
	Jack DeFord, 58, of Pinckneyville, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 23, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
	Jack was born in Canton on Dec. 9, 1945, the son of Ross and Mildred (Stremmel) DeFord.  He was united in marriage to Janet Harr on June 2, 1967, in the Christian Church of Cuba, and she survives.  Jack attended Cuba High School and was active in sports, especially football.
	After finishing high school in 1966, he worked as a coal miner at United Electric Coal Company, then transferred to Southern Illinois with Freeman United Coal Mine, retiring in April of 2003.  He attended the Friendship Church of Christ in Pinckneyville, where he was baptized into Christ.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Chicago Bears, and reading western novels.  He loved spending time with his children, wife, and grandchildren.
	Jack is survived by his wife Janet of Pinckneyville; two sons, Edward DeFord and wife Lisa, and Greg DeFord and wife Missie, all of Pinckneyville; two daughters, Shari Elder and husband George of Tamaroa, and Becki Tucker and husband Jeff of Pinckneyville; three brothers, Robert and wife Jane of Canton, Bill and wife Billie of Macomb, and John and wife Janice of Lewistown; two sisters, JoAnn Linsey and husband Junior of Canton, and Linda Lane of Lewistown; seven grandchildren, Cole and Hunter Jack DeFord, Ambrielle and Kiera DeFord, Jena Elder, and Levi and Mya Jo Tucker.
	He was preceded in death by his parents.
	Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 at Friendship Church of Christ, with Brother Darrell McCombs officiating.  Interment was in Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville.  Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville and from 8 to 10 a.m. at the church.
	Memorials may be made to Friendship Church of Christ Building Fund or the Lowes Syndrome Association.
